Marijn van de Weijer
Marijn van de Weijer (born in 1979) holds a MSc degree in Architecture from Eindhoven University of Technology (NL) and in Human Settlements from KU Leuven (B). He completed his PhD in Engineering and Architecture in 2014 at KU Leuven and Hasselt University (B). It consisted of research into strategies for transforming the suburban Flemish housing stock in light of contemporary ecological, economic, and demographic concerns. Since March 2018, he has been a member of the research group Smart Urban Redesign. His focus in education and research is on urban transition, urban renewal and adaptive reuse projects, and the inclusion of local, and societal stakeholders in design processes pertaining to such projects. He combines his academic work with a position in practice at a2o Architects in Hasselt and Brussels (B). He is a member of the heritage foundation WIEL – Werkgroep Industrieel Erfgoed Limburg.
