During the ‘City Deal’ project, work is being done on the future-proofing and vitality of neighborhoods in the cities of Maastricht, Heerlen and Sittard-Geleen. The neighborhoods are considered a learning environment where students from different programs work together interdisciplinary on the development of vital and future-proof neighborhoods. The third edition started in September 2021.
During the previous edition, four themes were central:
• Sustainability and climate adaptation;
• Participation and meeting
• Safe and clean
• Health and exercise.
The ‘City Deal’ project is a collaboration between the Municipality of Maastricht, Smart Urban Redesign (research group Zuyd University of Applied Sciences), Maastricht University, Trajekt and the residents of Mariaberg.
– bewoner wijk Maastricht
International design week
At the end of the project, a 5-day international design workshop will be organized with students from Zuyd, Maastricht University and various international colleges/universities. Local stakeholders and citizens will also be involved in this design week. Among other things, through a creative session with children and parents. This creative session will provide more insight into the various user groups within the district. The first edition in 2019 was a huge success.
