Het is alweer een paar maanden geleden dat het WOOW-programma officieel werd afgesloten. Dit programma heeft tot doel de wijken van de toekomst te heroverwegen door programma’s te ontwikkelen die zich bezighouden met sociaal-economische vraagstukken, wonen, vitaliteit en welzijn. WOOW 2020-2022 richt zich op de arbeidsmarkt en bereidt vluchtelingen met diploma’s en/of ervaring in de bouw- en technieksector specifiek voor op een carrière in Limburg. Ook initieerde zij het Urban living lab in Heerlen om met stakeholders de dialoog over de wijk van de toekomst op gang te brengen. Ruim 400 Zuyd-studenten en internationals namen deel aan de ontwikkeling van ideeën en toekomstscenario’s voor Heerlen Noord/GMS.
Tijdens het slotevenement kwam gouverneur van de Koning Emile Roemer langs om in gesprek te gaan met de deelnemers van het programma, Zuyd-studenten en -bewoners konden aan het woord komen over wat zij nodig hebben voor hun wijk van de toekomst. Daarnaast verscheen de publicatie geschreven door Maurice Hermans en Nurhan Abujidi, genaamd ‘The future is WOOW’. Deze publicatie kunt u downloaden op onze website: The future is WOOW – SURD.
Dat WOOW een programma was met een enorme impact hoefde niet aan de deelnemers of stakeholders te worden bewezen: grofweg 85% van de 25 deelnemers kreeg een baan nadat ze het intensieve traject hadden afgerond. De laatste tijd is de kwaliteit en het innovatieve karakter van het programma bevestigd door de Europese Commissie, die het programma financierde: WOOW is gekozen als een van de 100 best practices in de EU op het gebied van sociale innovatie. WOOW one of the 100 best practice cases of the EU
It is already a couple months ago that the WOOW program was officially closed. This program aims to rethink the neighbourhoods of the future by developing programmes that deal with socioeconomic issues, housing, vitality and well-being. WOOW 2020-2022 focuses on the labour market, specifically preparing refugees with certificates and/or experience in the construction and engineering sector for a career in Limburg. It also initiated the Urban living lab in Heerlen to start the dialogue about the neighbourhood of the future with stakeholders. More than 400 Zuyd students and internationals participated in the developing ideas and future scenarios for Heerlen Noord/GMS.
At the closing event, governor of the King Emile Roemer came by to have a talk with the participants of the program, Zuyd students and inhabitants were able to speak about what they need for their neighbourhood of the future. That WOOW was a program with massive impact didn’t need to be proven to the participants or stakeholders: roughly 85% of 25 participants got a job after they finished the intense trajectory. Lately, the quality and innovativeness of the program has been affirmed by the European Commission, who funded the program: WOOW is chosen to be one of the 100 best practices in the EU regarding social innovation.
